At City Orthodontics in Toronto, we believe that your child should have the best chance to have a beautiful smile when they grow up. This means taking them in for early orthodontic treatment at our Toronto office. If your child is over seven years of age, they should visit our orthodontists as soon as possible so we can intervene if necessary. Early orthodontic treatment allows our doctors to prepare your child’s bite for possible future treatments, and correct anything now that could make future treatments more painful or take longer.
Preparing for Your Child’s First Orthodontic Visit
Going to any new place can be scary for children, especially an orthodontist’s office. Our team at City Orthodontics strives to make your child feel as comfortable as possible when coming in for early orthodontic treatment. There are also some things you can do, so we both ensure your child has the best experience possible. Because children are so apt at sensing how their parents are feeling, make sure to stay relaxed. Keeping a positive, relaxed attitude about the orthodontist will help your child feel at ease when they come to our office for the first time. It also helps to bring something they love! Whether their favorite toy, stuffed animal, or blanket, having something they can hold and feel comforted by can help your child from being afraid. You can also make a day out of the whole trip. Leaving the kids at home if possible and making it a trip with just you and your little one will help ease the stress off your shoulders and will allow you to give all your attention to your child getting the orthodontic exam. After our appointment, you could also take them out for a treat, like a movie or something else special.
What to Expect At Your Child’s First Visit
No matter what your age, your first visit to our Toronto orthodontist office will be the same. The goal of your first visit is to determine what (if any) your treatment should be. To do this, we will take photographs and x-rays of your child’s teeth and inspect their bite. Doing this gives us the full view of what is happening with your son or daughter’s smile so we can prepare the best treatment plan possible if necessary.
If Dr. Kimos or Dr. Dyan determine that your child will need treatment, they will put together a treatment plan and go over each step with you. They will also most likely take impressions of your child’s teeth so they can begin to create whichever treatment needs to happen for your child’s unique smile. Our team will then make arrangements for you and your child to come back to the office at a later time to begin treatment.
