At City Orthodontics, our mission is to help each one of our patients achieve a healthy, beautiful, lifelong smile as conveniently as possible. Our doctors and highly trained team of orthodontic specialists work hard to treat every patient on an individual level, designing personalized treatment plans that perfectly suit each patient’s unique orthodontic needs and lifestyle. While traditional metal braces remain the most popular treatment we offer, they’re far from the only option: and clear braces are one of the most appealing alternatives.
Clear braces use the same basic mechanism as metal braces, with one major difference: instead of stainless steel, the brackets of clear braces are made from a transparent ceramic composite material that blends in with the color of teeth. This makes the braces far less visible to observers, minimizing their impact on your appearance and lifestyle: you won’t have to worry about having braces for photographs, major presentations, or important social events. These advantages make them hugely popular for adult orthodontic treatment.
While clear braces have an undeniable aesthetic appeal, there are a number of things you’ll need to keep in mind during treatment. Just like with traditional braces, you’ll need to be extremely conscientious of oral hygiene, brushing your teeth at least four times a day and flossing daily. You’ll also have to manage your diet, avoiding foods that are hard, sticky, or loaded with sugar, as these can damage teeth and braces. Clear braces are also slightly more fragile than metal braces, and while the brackets won’t stain, the elastic ties on the brackets are liable to discoloration between visits. Even with these concerns, though, clear braces present a convenient, aesthetically-appealing treatment option for many adults.
