Aligner Material has Improved Invisalign

A growing number of our patients choose Invisalign as their teeth straightening option as this orthodontic treatment system has completely changed the way many people and especially adults view orthodontic treatment.

Align Technology’s Invisalign System has revolutionized orthodontics since its launch in 1999. This innovative treatment option allows people to have their teeth straightened very discreetly and conveniently using a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually move teeth into the desired position. With Invisalign, it’s possible to improve your smile without anyone knowing as the translucent aligners are virtually invisible.

The doctors here at our Toronto orthodontic office would like to share some exciting news about Invisalign with those of you who are thinking of having your teeth straightened. During the fall of 2012, Align Technology announced that SmartTrack, the next generation of Invisalign clear aligner material would become available commercially in January of 2013.

This new and improved material, which is now being used to make Invisalign aligners, delivers a more constant force over the 2-week aligner wear than the previous material used. And, orthodontists report that patients find aligners made with SmartTrack material are more comfortable to wear.

A Better Fit and More Constant Force

Flexible SmartTrack material is designed to more precisely conform to the shape of the teeth for a more exact aligner fit. This new elastic material also improves control of tooth movement as it delivers gentle, consistent force. The SmartTrack material also makes it easier to insert and remove the aligner trays for improved convenience and comfort.

The original aligner material used to make Invisalign could relax and lose a substantial percent of energy in the initial days of aligner wear. But SmartTrack maintains a more constant force over the two weeks that a patient wears Invisalign aligners.

Clinically Proven More Effective

A study conducted on more than 1,000 patients treated with Invisalign aligners made with SmartTrack showed significant improvements in control of tooth movements such as rotations and extrusions compared to patients treated with aligners made with the prior Invisalign material.

To the eye, Invisalign aligners made with SmartTrack look the same as aligners made with the previous material as the clarity and aesthetics is unchanged. However, the new material feels different as the SmartTrack aligners are more flexible to provide a better fit and easier insertion and removal.

Now is a terrific time to schedule an appointment with our Toronto orthodontic office to see if Invisalign is right for you or your teen! Invisalign has always been a great way to straighten teeth but it is now better than ever with the new SmartTrack material that is changing the face of clear aligner treatment!
